Stay tuned as Danielle uses the funds to create an exhibit of what a million bread tags looks like to promote educational sustainability and give one lucky child a mobility product. Thank you, Disney|ABC Television Group Be Inspired and Youth Service America
Danielle Rothchild, a senior from Carmel High school has been awarded a Disney Summer of Service grant through YSA (Youth Service America). The grant will support Rothchild in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of recycling and giving back to the community. Danielle Cares for Chairs collects bread tags, recycle them and uses the proceeds to buy mobility products for people in need.
Service activities will take place in the next few months. She will be setting up an exhibit to showcase exponential growth from one to one million bread tags of the 1.8 million that has been collected, as well as donating a power wheel vehicle that has been retrofitted by Pike High School robotics students. The students in conjunction with Danielle Cares For Chairs will adapt this car to fit the special requirements for a child in need. The event is planned for Sunday January 14th, between 1 and 3 PM at the main cafeteria at Carmel High School. The event is open to the public and will include light refreshments and cake to celebrate the event, as well as the ceremony and information about this teen’s foundation. Following the event, the 1 million bread tag display will be moved to Carmel Public Library, where it will be on display for a month.
Future events will include the next donation on March 18th to coincide with National Disability Month, and local students will be constructing the world’s longest continuous bread tag chain. The bread tags have been collected from restaurants, hospitals, sporting venues and teams throughout the country.
